Any of you Country Folk keep Bat Houses around your Property?
I've got a few of them around. Finally saw a bat inside one after several years! They say one bat can eat hundreds of mosquitoes every night. I've got 6 or 8 bats that crawl in the gap between my rain gutters, and the fascia board, on the south side of the house. During hot days in the Summer, when those rain gutters heat up, the bats bail out and go somewhere a little cooler. I like having them around. Same with Robins. Got to be one of the most beautiful birds, and they like mosquitoes too.

No bat house but the huge palm tree in front of my house houses quite a few under the dead palm fronds.. At dusk I can sit on my porch and watch them drop like a rock and then just before they hit the ground they swoop up and fly away. The kids like to watch with me. It really does help with mosquitoes and I've never had a problem from them. Everyonce in a while a sick one will lay at the bottom of the tree and I have to keep the cat off it. My daughter tries to get between the two of them and I have to remind her that the cat is vaccinated against rabies and she is not.
